Clients that automatically reconnect to a remembered SSID select among matching names largely by signal and policy, not by cryptographic identity of the AP. Spoofed SSIDs with stronger RSSI can therefore attract unmanaged auto-join devices. Auto-join does not magically upgrade encryption. Preferential network lists are a common evil-twin success factor on guest and kiosk fleets.
