GitHub Enterprise Cloud retains audit log data for 180 days by default. After 180 days, audit log entries are no longer available in the GitHub interface. For organizations with compliance requirements mandating longer log retention (SOC 2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, etc.), GitHub supports audit log streaming to external systems including Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, and SIEM platforms like Splunk and Datadog. GitHub Enterprise Server's audit log retention can be configured by administrators. The 180-day default applies to GHEC's web interface — streaming captures logs in real-time to your external storage for longer retention.
